Memo
To: All faculty teaching Math 151
Subject: Math 151 information
Date: January 14, 2010
The course objectives for Math 151 are available on the department's Math 151 page (http://math.prairiestate.edu/m151.htm), and they should be shared with your students. As usual, we will be giving departmental final exams this semester. The exams will consist of 34 multiple-choice problems and approximately 6 free-response problems. All exam problems will be based directly on the course objectives. Faculty will begin putting together the final exams very soon. If you have any questions or comments about the final exams, please bring them to my attention as soon as possible. The official Math 151 review packet and formula sheet are also available and can be shared with students when appropriate. Although you may allow students to use other formula sheets throughout the semester, only the official formula sheet is allowed for use on the final exam.
The textbook for Math 151 is Michael Sullivan's College Algebra, 8th edition (ISBN: 978-0-132-40286-6). The course covers section 2.2, chapters 3-6, and sections 8.1 & 8.2. Your students will be tested on the course objectives whether or not the text covers them. In some cases you may need to supplement the text. For example, objective 18 is not covered very well by the text.
If you have any questions about the course content, please see Terra Stamps, Kevin Marks, or Steve Kifowit.
The results of last semester's final exams will be in a forthcoming memo. Expect that memo within the next several weeks.
