Math 200 - Mathematics for Elementary Teaching I - 4 Credit Hours - 4 Lecture Hours
Course Description
This course covers the fundamental ideas and theories of mathematics beginning with arithmetic. It is designed for prospective and present elementary school teachers. Topics covered include problem solving, sets, whole numbers, integers, rational numbers, and real numbers. Mathematical reasoning is emphasized throughout. This is the first course in a two-semester sequence recommended to meet the requirements for teacher certification in Illinois. It is not a methods course in teaching mathematics.
Prerequisite
Math 095 and Math 096, both with at least a C

Additional Comments
A scientific calculator is required for this course. The preferred calculator is the TI-83/84 Graphing Calculator or the TI-73 Graphing Calculator.
Only students who intend to take Math 206 should enroll in this course. Students cannot simultaneously enroll in both Math 200 and Math 206.
